Council Meeting: Dec. 10, 2008
The regular meeting of the City Council for Castle Pines was held Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Castle Pines Community Center, 7404 Yorkshire Drive.

City Manager Alan Lanning and
Mayor Maureen Shul
After holding a series of budget hearings and discussions this fall, Council voted to approve the City's budget for 2009, which is about $3.8 million. Also, new City Manager Alan Lanning was introduced to the public. Previously City Manager in Steamboat Springs, Colo., Lanning has more than 17 years of experience in leading government operations and his appointment is effective immediately.
The following additional items were discussed and approved:
- Resolution 08-57 pass-through funding to Douglas County for law-enforcement services, "Levying property taxes for the year of 2008 to help defray the cost of government for the City of Castle Pines North, for the 2009 budget year."
- Resolution 08-56, "Approving second amendment to city management services with CH2M HILL adopting the baseline compensation and revised scope of services."
- Resolution 08-55, "Approving statement of expenditures and appropriating funds therefor."
- Ordinance 08-14, "Amending ordinance 08-07 regarding business licenses and contractor licenses" (first reading).
During the Council's study session preceding the meeting, members discussed progress on an agreement with Douglas County Sheriff's Office to continue providing public safety services, and recommendations related to the development of alcohol beverage licensing procedures for the City of Castle Pines. Currently Douglas County provides licensing services. Members also discussed that the Castle Rock/Douglas County News-Press is exploring creating a Castle Pines edition of the newspaper to provide local news to residents and advertising opportunities for businesses on a weekly basis.
The next City Council meeting – and the first session of 2009 – will be held Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. It will be at the Castle Pines Community Center, 7404 Yorkshire Drive. All Council meetings are open to the public and are posted on the City's online calendar.
