Council Meeting: Jan. 7, 2009

The regular meeting of the City Council for Castle Pines North was held 7 p.m. Jan. 7 at the CPN Community Center, 7404 Yorkshire Drive.

The Council formally approved the new Ordinance 08-14 that clarifies the City’s business licensing ordinance passed in December 2008 and effective Jan. 1, 2009. Businesses and contractors doing business in the City of Castle Pines North are reminded that licenses for 2009 must be purchased. The deadline to obtain a license before late fees are assessed was Jan. 1, and additional late fees will apply after Feb. 1.

In addition, the Council approved the development of what will be the City's largest park – the 40-acre Lagae Park, which lies roughly between Castle Pines Parkway, Yorkshire Drive and Monarch Boulevard. When completed, the park will have an athletic field, a playground, parking areas and plenty of space for citizens to enjoy.

Among other highlights, the following items were discussed and approved:
  • Resolution 09-10, which approves the City's membership in the Partnership of Douglas County Governments.

  • The first reading of three ordinances – 09-03, 09-04 and 09-05 – that would grant franchise agreements to Comcast, Intermountain Rural Electric Association, and Xcel Energy. Franchise fees are assessed by cities to utility providers in exchange for the use of the public right-of-way to deliver their services.
During the Council's study session preceding the meeting, Council received an update from Douglas County on the Daniels Park Road improvement project. According to the County, the project is proceeding well with no major delays anticipated. The Council also discussed its land use codes, Castle Pines-area economic development, and agreements being developed for Douglas County to continue providing snow removal and public safety services to the City.

Those agreements are expected to be presented for discussion and approval at the next City Council meeting, which will be Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. in the CPN Community Center, 7404 Yorkshire Drive.

All Council meetings are open to the public and are posted on the City's online calendar. All meeting agendas are posted online and at the CPN Community Center the day before each meeting is held.
