Council Meeting: Feb. 25, 2009

Lt. McCarty and Mayor Shul
Lt. Troy McCarty of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office joins
Mayor Maureen A. Shul as she signs an agreement with the county.
The regular meeting of the City Council for Castle Pines was held 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at the CPN Community Center, 7404 Yorkshire Drive.

The Council approved a proposed agreement with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office to continue providing law enforcement, traffic control and animal control services to Castle Pines.

The agreement now will go before the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners for approval.

Among other highlights, Council discussed and approved the following items:
  • Ordinance 09-02, which regulates traffic and parking within the boundaries of Castle Pines North.
  • Resolution 09-19, "Approving Douglas County intergovernmental agreement for collection of Douglas County building use tax." Through this agreement, the city on behalf of the county will begin to collect the county's 1 percent use tax on construction and building materials used within Castle Pines North, and transmit the revenue to the county.
  • Two resolutions -- 09-24 and 09-25 -- related to the formation and governance of city-sponsored task forces and committees. A new Economic Development Committee was approved to help support and develop businesses and collaborate with other local entities such as the Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce and the South East Business Partnership. Up to five people will serve on the committee, with initial leadership provided by City Manager Alan Lanning and Councilpersons Chris Dooley and David Neely.
Council also agreed to change the time of its April 9 meeting. The City Council meeting will begin at 8 p.m., and there will not be a study session that evening.

The next City Council meeting will be Thursday, March 12, at 7 p.m. in the CPN Community Center, 7404 Yorkshire Drive. All Council meetings are open to the public. All meeting agendas are posted online and at the CPN Community Center the day before each meeting is held.
