Will there be a polling place in Castle Pines North?
No. This will be a mail-in ballot election only - there will be no polling places. Mail-in ballots are expected to be mailed to all registered voters beginning Oct. 12, 2009. Castle Rock Bank, 506 Castle Pines Parkway, has volunteered to serve as a ballot drop-off location for Castle Pines North (CPN).

Am I registered to vote and how do I ensure I will receive a mail-in ballot?
The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 3, 2009, election is Oct. 5, 2009.

Individuals can review/edit their election registration information and/or request a mail-in ballot by going to the Douglas County Clerk & Recorder Elections Web site, or call the Douglas County Clerk & Recorder at 303.660.7444.

The last day to apply for a mail-in ballot (if mailed to you) is Oct. 27, 2009.

The last day to apply for a mail-in ballot (picked-up in person at the Douglas County Clerk & Recorder) is Oct. 30, 2009.

What are the candidate qualifications to run for an elected office?
You must be at least 18 years of age as of Nov. 3, 2009, and a resident of Castle Pines North for 12 consecutive months preceding the Nov. 3, 2009, election to be eligible to run for Mayor, City Council, Treasurer, or City Clerk. City Council candidates must also reside within their respective wards for a period of at least 12 consecutive months preceding the Nov. 3, 2009, election. City ward maps can be found on the City Web site under the "Maps & Directories" link.

What are the terms of office?
The term of office for Mayor, Treasurer and City Clerk is four years. At the Nov. 3, 2009, regular election the City Council candidate receiving the most votes in each City Council Ward shall be elected to a four-year term. The City Council candidate receiving the second most votes in each Council Ward shall be elected to a two-year term. At the Nov. 1, 2011, regular election and every four years thereafter, every City Council office shall be a four-year term.

What does the election process require for candidates?
Interested candidates must obtain and submit a nomination petition on forms supplied by the City Clerk in order to run for any of the nine City offices. Petition forms are scheduled to be available Aug. 4, 2009, and will be available from the City Clerk and on the City Web site.

Each nomination petition must include a minimum 25 signatures of registered CPN voters. Candidates running for City Council office must obtain 25 signatures from registered voters residing in their respective wards.

Completed nomination petitions must be received in the City Clerk's office by 5 p.m. on Aug. 24, 2009, at the – Community Development Office, 7437 Village Square Lane, 2nd Floor, Castle Pines North, CO.

Are there other requirements for candidates?
All candidates must register with the Colorado Secretary of State and must comply with the requirements set forth under the Colorado Fair Campaign Practices Act.
