As we pause to reflect on the meaning of Independence Day and the cherished freedoms we enjoy, it is a most appropriate time to also give thanks to all our veterans who have and continue to serve our country.
We live free today because of the courage and bravery of our founding fathers and those throughout the years who have valiantly served and sacrificed themselves to preserve those freedoms established 233 years ago. May we never take for granted all the freedoms and blessings we have been given as citizens of this magnificent country.
Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Fourth of July holiday,
Maureen A. Shul

During the Fourth of July weekend, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies will be conducting DUI saturation patrols throughout the county. This patrol reinforcement will occur 8 p.m. – 3 a.m., July 2 – 6, on major county roads prone to DUI related crashes and arrests. Please be smart; don’t drink and drive. |
Celebrate Independence Day
The City of Castle Pines North is hosting its second annual Independence Day celebration for all citizens, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., Friday, July 3, at Coyote Ridge Park, which is located at the northeast corner of Monarch Boulevard and Hidden Point Boulevard. Bring the whole family for an evening of food, games, activities, live music and free giveaways. Grab your chairs and blankets, and join your neighbors for a great celebration. In the event of inclement weather, please visit the Castle Pines Web site or the Castle Pines Master association Web site.
Fireworks ban clarification
We are aware there is some concern and confusion over the fireworks ban in effect in Castle Pines North. While the use of a limited selection of fireworks is allowed in Douglas County, Castle Pines North City Council approved an ordinance, 09-06, banning the use of all fireworks outside of professional displays. This ban includes the use of any and all fireworks permitted at the state and county levels. We apologize for the late notification regarding this ban.
While no fire restrictions are in effect in Douglas County at this time, it is important to do your part to stay safe during the upcoming Fourth of July weekend. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office recommends you "leave fireworks alone and see a professional display." Also, please use the 911 system for true emergencies and not for fireworks complaints. Use the non-emergency phone number, 303.660.7500, to register fireworks complaints.
Not only can fireworks cause physical damage to houses and open land, but also they are very dangerous. An estimated 10,000 injuries occur each year from firework-related incidents. Visit TheDenverChannel.com for more information about professional displays and how to keep your friends and family safe this Fourth of July weekend.
