Elk Ridge Park Awarded GoCo $700,000 Grant

Castle Pines North newest park, Elk Ridge Park, will receive a $700,000 grant from Greater Outdoors Colorado (GoCo).   Funded through Colorado Lottery proceeds, GoCo awarded $24 million in grants for 23 projects throughout the state.

"It's great news to be able to share that we were awarded this amount by GoCo and that there are alternative funding sources available,” says Castle Pines Parks Authority President Anna Mallinson. “I greatly appreciate Axel Bishop from Design Concepts for bringing this grant to our attention and Shanen Weber and team for writing the application for us. Even though we already have the funds to complete Elk Ridge Park, it means we can discuss what to do with the extra money, what a fantastic position to be in!"

Elk Ridge Park is located on Mira Vista Lane, just north of American Academy. The City owned park is scheduled to be complete in 2011.

Castle Pines North Adopts Coyote Management Plan

coyoteCity Council recently adopted a coyote management plan, providing guidelines for responses to conflicts with coyotes while maintaining public safety as its primary emphasis. To view the coyote management plan, please visit the City web site.

The plan seeks to identify and achieve a balance between the importance of human safety and the native ecology of the region.  Additionally, the plan provides standard definitions and vocabulary related to coyote management, outlines a consistent, organized and detailed reporting and tracking process for human-coyote interactions, and provides response processes for human-coyote related reports.  Please read the full coyote management plan to find out more about this important topic.

To assist with coyote tracking, citizens are encouraged to complete the online coyote incident report form, available on the City web site. The web site also includes urban coyote FAQs and a home audit checklist.

2010 Census – Phase 2

Census BadgeDouglas County Sheriff David Weaver reminds citizens that United States Census Bureau employees may be back in your neighborhood in the near future, working on the next phase of the 2010 Census. Workers will be walking or driving through neighborhoods to verify that all addresses are in the Census Bureau's database. Workers wear an official identification badge and may carry Census Bureau bags, making them easy to identify.

Castle Pines Mayor ProTem Doug Gilbert explains the relevance of complete census data for Castle Pines North, “Take 10 on the Census! Yes, take 10 minutes to fill out the form that will determine how things look for the next 10 years. Nationally, over $435 billion is distributed to community programs based on Census data. For every Castle Pines North resident counted, our City and County has the potential to receive hundreds of dollars in funds a year per resident. Please make sure that we count and that you count!”

Celebrate Earth Day

Earth in handsEarth Day is April 22, and you can do your share to help the environment. “The 40th anniversary of Earth Day is a local to global call to action,” says local CP Green Chair Carol Barbieto.  “Citizens can be a part of this movement covering 190 countries by committing to personal, community, and business actions to conserve energy and water, support development and use of alternative fuels and supporting merchants that offer products and services that are environmentally friendly.”

Barbieto continues, “Join in the many programs offered through www.earthday.net, and contact the Castle Pines Green Committee to help your City become green and sustainable.”

Noise Issues To Be Discussed

The Centennial Airport/Community Noise Roundtable (CACNR) will hold its second public hearing to identify and discuss aircraft-related noise issues. The hearing will be held Wednesday, May 5 at 7 pm, at the Ramada Hotel and Suites, located at 7770 S. Peoria St., Englewood.

"I hope residents of Castle Pines will attend this public hearing so their voices are heard when it comes to the issue of airplane noise impacting our community,” says council member Maureen Shul, who is the designated Castle Pines North representative .  “The more public input given the better opportunity we have of protecting our community from excessive noise."

The CACNR was established, after approval from the FAA, as an advisory committee to monitor programs including the Fly Quiet Program guidelines and Noise Monitoring Program, and to generate discussion and possible solutions for airport noise. The CACNR has set a goal of accepting as much public input as possible in this process. If members of the public are unable to attend the public hearing, public comment is accepted at each CACNR meeting on the first Wednesday of each month. For more information, contact council member Maureen Shul.
