As we enter the second decade of the 21st century, Castle Pines North has many challenges and opportunities ahead.
This year, citizens will see the initial results of the cost-saving efforts of various community organizations. Homeowner association fees have declined along with property taxes, and the City Council and the CPN Metro District are diligently working to create efficiencies in operations.
However, we need to take a long-term view on the costs of operating the city. We need well-planned water initiatives that will ensure the viability of our community for decades to come. We will work to create a capital investment plan to improve our roads and streets. And we will continue efforts to reduce water consumption and improve the landscaping in our common areas and public right-of-ways.
As the economy recovers in 2010, Castle Pines North should be on the leading edge of the economic recovery. Recent annexations will bring additional citizens and businesses to our community. As mayor, it is my intent to make our city a business-friendly location. City Council will soon address a proposal to reduce business licensing fees, and our goal is to maintain close ties with our Chamber of Commerce and our Economic Development Committee.
We live and work in an area that provides easy access to big city amenities while living in a small town atmosphere. Our city should create an environment where personal and business investments can flourish. I look forward to serving as your mayor for the next four years, and together we can make Castle Pines North a great place to live.
Respectfully,
Jeffrey Huff
Mayor, Castle Pines North |

Reminder: If you are interested in helping serve the cause of safety in our community, here are three other ways you can help:
Don’t drink and drive
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be stepping up efforts to apprehend drunk drivers during the upcoming Super Bowl weekend, beginning 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 and ending 3 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8. The DCSO and the State Patrol will be out in force during this period and will conduct DUI saturation patrol on roadways that have been identified as problem areas for accidents. “I urge citizens to use the same common sense this weekend as they would any other time in regards to drinking and deciding to get behind the wheel of a car,” says Sheriff David Weaver. “The consequences of making the wrong decision can be extreme. Please have a plan in place and designate a sober driver before you go to any Super Bowl festivities.”
February is American Heart Month
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and is a major cause of disability. The chance of developing coronary heart disease can be reduced by taking steps to prevent and control factors that put people at greater risk. Additionally, knowing the signs and symptoms of heart attack are crucial to the most positive outcomes after having a heart attack. People who have survived a heart attack also can work to reduce their risk of another heart attack or a stroke in the future. For more information on heart disease and stroke, visit CDC's Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention.
