City of CPN Seeking Volunteers
During the September City Council meetings, the City Council will be considering an ordinance creating a citizen, volunteer-based Planning Commission and also a Board of Zoning Adjustment. This effort is a result of the City Council looking to engage more citizens from the community to expand the local governance process and participation.
The Planning Commission will be responsible for reviewing land use and zoning applications and making recommendations to the City Council. They are also the primary government body responsible for the development of the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The Planning Commission also serves as the Board of Zoning Adjustment, which is a decision-making body primarily responsible for hearing variance applications.
At their August 24 Council Meeting, the City Council approved a Resolution restructuring their Citizen Committees into three core functions: Public Works, Utilities, and Parks; Communications and Community Outreach; and Budget, Finance and Professional Services. Council is now in the process of soliciting citizens to serve on these committees. Interested residents may apply online at www.castlepinesgov.com or pick up an application form at City Hall at 7501 Village Square Drive, Suite 100.
New Regulatory Ordinances
At the conclusion of the August 24 public hearing, the City of Castle Pines North adopted two separate regulatory ordinances setting forth the time, place and manner in which sexually oriented businesses can legally operate within the City. The newly adopted zoning regulations and licensing provisions address to the fullest extent permissible under law, the negative secondary effects of sexually oriented businesses in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the community.

Update on the Status of the Castle Pines URA Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs)
The IGAs between the City of Castle Pines North, the Castle Pines Urban Renewal Authority, the Parker Water and Sanitation District and the Castle Rock Fire District have been approved by their respective Boards. The IGAs are intended to ensure that the future ability to provide services to area residents will not be financially impacted by the Urban Renewal Authority. The only outstanding IGA (apart from the one currently being worked on with Douglas County) is with South Metro Fire Rescue Authority. The respective attorneys from these entities are currently discussing the revisions to the agreement requested by the SMFRA. The CP URA, the City of Castle Pines North and South Metro Fire Rescue Authority continue to work on the terms of a mutually beneficial IGA.

The joint Ward 1 and Ward 2 meeting for Sept. will be held Tuesday, September 7, 6 p.m., at the Daniels Gate Clubhouse.
