Castle Pines North establishes municipal court

CASTLE PINES NORTH, Colo., Dec. 18, 2009 — City Council has established a municipal court system for the City of Castle Pines North, which will go into effect Jan. 1.

“The city’s municipal court will now enforce traffic and parking infractions instead of Douglas County,” says Mayor Maureen Shul. “Council deemed it necessary and appropriate for the health, safety and convenience of the citizens to establish a municipal court system to hear and try alleged traffic violation infractions, closely following Douglas County statutes.”

Court will be held at the Community Center, 7404 Yorkshire Dr., and offenders will be notified of court dates upon receiving traffic citations. Among its judicial powers, the municipal court can:

  • Impose fines and penalties
  • Enforce subpoenas
  • Punish contempt of court to enforce court orders

Council appointed Judge Lewis A. Gresh as presiding municipal judge, effective Jan.1, and he will serve a two-year term. Gresh is currently the municipal judge in the Town of Castle Rock, the Town of Larkspur and the City of Lone Tree. He recently retired from the 18th Judicial District where he served as District Court Magistrate, with 24 years of experience on the municipal court bench.

With more than 15 years of court experience, Karla McCrimmon will serve as court administrator. McCrimmon currently serves in the same capacity for the Town of Castle Rock, and she is the current president of the Colorado Association for Municipal Court Administration.

Daily court administration questions and comments will initially be handled by Deputy City Clerk Carl Kollmar. For questions concerning the newly instituted municipal court of Castle Pines North, contact Kollmar at 303.705.0200.
