City of Castle Pines North Signs URA Agreements with
Castle Rock Fire District, Parker Water and Sanitation
District and South Metro Fire Rescue Authority

CASTLE PINES NORTH, Colo., June 8, 2010
– In a move to ensure collaboration and consensus surrounding the formation of an Urban Renewal Authority, the Castle Pines North City Council on Tuesday signed Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) with the Castle Rock Fire District, Parker Water and Sanitation and the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority.

The IGAs ensure that the financial future and ability to effectively provide services to area residents will not be financially impacted by the Urban Renewal Authority.

“This is a progressive move that most cities do not consider when forming an Urban Renewal Authority,” said Castle Pines North Mayor Jeffrey Huff. “As a council, we want to be as collaborative as possible with the districts that provide these vital services to our residents, and we are working with other area districts to sign similar agreements.”

District leaders lauded the City’s inclusive nature, and noted that the agreements lay the foundation for future collaborative work and open discussion.

“I appreciate the City of Castle Pines North proactively reaching out to the Castle Rock Fire District,” said Fire Chief Arturo Morales.  “We, as emergency responders, are pleased that the City took the time to hear our concerns and that they have done their part to guarantee that we’re adequately compensated for the services we provide.”

“I commend the City’s willingness to explore the situations and circumstances we face as a fire district and that they are willing to go that extra step to create an agreement that protects the District’s funding and the services we provide for our future,” said South Metro Fire Authority Chief Dan Qualman. “This IGA also lays the groundwork for future and ongoing cooperation within the Authority’s boundaries.”

The City has consistently gone above and beyond when it comes to planning for the Urban Renewal Authority and ensuring as many parties as possible are included in the decision-making process. Multiple professional feasibility studies have been conducted, and several public meetings for residents and business owners were conducted in the past several months.
